9 Steps to help in keeping your organization Secure

If the computer you use to run your online business is the same one your children use for homework and general surfing, this is potentially a very precarious circumstances.

The following are a few Anti-Hacking tips that will help in keeping your systems secure.

  1. Install Anti-Virus software and ensure that it’s regularly updated.(If you do only one thing to help protect the safety of your computing environment, always take prompt advantage of software updates).
  2. Anti-virus software isn’t enough - it’s also a good idea to install firewall (Good fences make good neighbors) software which will help prevent unauthorized incoming and outgoing communications from your computer while connected to the Internet.
  3. Passwords protect the settings on the software so no-one else can alter protection levels. Most anti-virus programs also offer some protection against Trojans, which aren’t actually a virus, but a small program that allows others to control your computer.
  4. Turn off your preview window in your email program. Some viruses, called worms, can infect your system without you clicking on attachments - just by you having your preview window open. Some worms can cause your sensitive information and documents to be transmitted to millions of people. Be very cautious in opening attachments, even if it appears to come from someone you know - their system may be infected.
  5. Disconnect your computer from the Internet when not in use. The longer you are connected to the Internet, the more opportunity you give for persons to gain unauthorized access.
  6. If your computer is used by others, carry out regular examination of the software on it and research any software that you discover that you haven’t installed yourself. It’s safest to make it a policy not to allow any software to be installed without your permission.
  7. If you must store usernames and passwords on your system, ensure they are contained in a document that is password protected. It is safest not to store any passwords on your computer. Don’t let Windows “remember” passwords for you. Passwords should always be more than 8 characters long and include upper and lower case letters, numerals, symbols.
  8. Ensure that you log out of online services properly. Failure to do so can allow others who use your computer to gain access to those services and you can be blamed for their activities.
  9. Back up your files and store them away from your computer. Frequent backups just make good sense. The more virulent types of attacks damage or infect your hard drive and you can lose valuable personal information. By backing up your data weekly you can help protect your important files, computer settings, and irreplaceable digital media.

Method 2

2.Press start->run,type cmd.
3.In the command prompt,type ipconfig/flushdns press enter.Then type ipconfig/release,then ipconfig/renew .Now type exit.
4.Now try downloading, for many people this may work if their ISP provides a dynamic ip.

Method 3

1.Just switch off your router(or modem) and switch it back on.
2.This may work for some users(Mtnl and Bsnl) and maybe some others too.

Actually these methods generally work for those people whose ISP gives them dynamic ip.
If these dont work then one more thing that can be done is to use proxies.

Method 3

1.Download the software Hide ip platinum from here http://rapidshare.de/files/34451917/hideipv32.rar

2.Run it,then it will automatically chose a proxy(ip of a different country) for you.So you can easily download without any restrictions. You just have to change the proxy each time you download.

How to lower the amount of memory that Firefox uses

If your computer starts to slow down after you’ve been using Firefox for a while, you may be able to regain some of your system resources by limiting the amount of memory that Firefox is “allowed” to use for caching, thus improving your system performance. It should be noted that if you have 1GB or more of RAM, you probably don’t need to follow these steps..
#1. In your Firefox address bar, enter the following text: about:config
2. Scroll down to the entry titled browser.cache.memory.enable and make sure the Value is set to true. If it’s not, double-click anywhere in the browser.cache.memory.enable line and the status will change to true
3. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu
4. Enter browser.cache.memory.capacity in the New integer value pop-up box
5. You’ll need to enter a number in the Enter integer value, but that number depends on how much memory you have (specifically, how much you want to “give” Firefox). If you have 256MB or less RAM, enter 4096 as the value. If you have 512MB of RAM, enter 6144 or 8192. If you have 128MB or less RAM, you may want to consider upgrading - memory is getting very inexpensive.
6. Confirm that the new entry has been created and the integer value is correct
7. 7. If for any reason you wish to restore the default settings, change the browser.cache.memory.capacity integer value to -1 (that’s minus one).

Restart Firefox and see if the change helped. You can use the Task Manager (Windows) or the Activity Monitor utility (Mac) to monitor your Firefox memory usage.
